Sociedade de Pesquisa em Vida Selvagem e Educacao Ambiental (SPVS)-Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education Established in 1984 by a group of conservationists, SPVS (Portuguese acronym for the Society for Wildlife Research and Environmental Education), has conducted protection projects mostly in southern Brazil in order to accomplish its goal of protecting the country's natural heritage. SPVS works through a multi-disciplinary team which includes biologists, agronomists, economists, and consultants from varying fields who contribute expertise on an as-needed basis. In 1991, the group established its partnership with The Nature Conservancy to begin work in the Guaraqueçaba Environmental Protection Area (EPA). Since then, SPVS has been working there on projects in areas such as community support, applied research, conservation science, environmental education, and planning for local and regional biodiversity conservation. At present, SPVS is one of the oldest conservation NGOs in Brazil, and has tremendous experience working with both the public and private sectors in-country.
